What Is the Fastest Go Kart?

We all know how fast go-karts can be. When I got into a 4-stroke rental kart for the first time, I thought it was the fastest kart. Then, I tried a 125cc 2-stroke kart in Phuket, and I was sure that go-karts couldn’t go faster than that.

But, there are much faster go-karts out there. So, I thought it’d be good to see what the fastest go-karts are, depending on their category. I should clarify that I’ll mention both the fastest accelerating karts and the ones that have the highest top speed.

What Is the Fastest Go Kart in the World?

The fastest go-karts in terms of speed are 250cc 2-stroke superkarts. These come with a 2-cylinder engine, and they can produce up to 100hp. They have a top speed of 130-140mph (209-225 km/h), but some have reached higher speeds when tuned.

The fastest accelerating go-kart is the Daymak C5 Blast, which claims to do 0-60mph (0-100 km/h) in 1.5 seconds.

What Is the Fastest Electric Go Kart in the World?

In terms of acceleration, the fastest electric go-kart is the Daymak C5 Blast, as I mentioned above. But, in terms of top speed, most electric go-karts go up to 50mph (80 km/h), with the Sodi RSX being one of the fastest, with a top speed of 60mph (100 km/h).

But, the fastest electric go-kart is the BSR 2.0 racing kart from Blue Shock Race. Its fastest motor goes up to 84mph (135 km/h).

What Is the Fastest 2-Stroke Engine Go Kart in the World?

The fastest 2-stroke go-karts are superkarts. But, the fastest 125cc 2-stroke shifter karts can reach speeds of up to 115mph (185 km/h). That said, the more accessible 125cc 2-stroke TaG go-karts can go up to 80mph (129 km/h).

What Is the Fastest 4-Stroke Engine Go Kart in the World?

This is a little bit harder to gauge. Most 4-stroke go-karts are used as a rental, and they have a limiter, which is usually set at 40mph (64 km/h). However, there’s the Lo206 category, which is famous in the US and uses 4-stroke engines. These can go up to 70mph (113 km/h).

Still, there’s a class of superkarts used in the UK and Australia which utilizes 450 4-stroke engines. These are single-cylinder, and they have a bit more than half the horsepower of 250cc 2-stroke superkarts. So, while their top speed is unknown, it’s safe to assume that it’s in the range of 70-80mph (113-129 km/h).

What Is the Fastest Custom Made Go Kart in the World?

Custom-made go-karts can be extremely slow or really fast. It’s difficult to determine which one is the fastest since most people build ones at home that go up to 20 mph (32 km/h). I’ve also heard of drivers who built a 2-stroke kart on their own; these karts can go up to 80mph (129 km/h).

But, the fastest custom-made go-karts in the world are drag karts. There’s no way to pinpoint which one is the fastest since their speed can range from 120-180mph (193-290 km/h). Plus, these can’t be raced on go-kart tracks since they’re built for drag races (so it’s difficult to get them through corners).

That said, I’ll leave you off with a great video by Driver61, which shows one of the fastest custom-made go-karts in the world.

Since we’re talking about custom builds, I recently talked with Hans-Peter Elkmann who is the engineer who built the Performer-1000 and it is a machine worth checking.

It’s out of range of a go-kart as it’s built on a custom-made chassis and powered by a massive GSX-R1000 engine (sportbike engine). But if you are looking for an adrenaline shot, just take a look at this video.

Conclusion

That’s pretty much it when it comes to the fastest go-kart in the world. If you ever get the chance to get into a 125cc 2-stroke go-kart, I’d suggest you do it without hesitation. It’s an incredible experience.
